TuneFest Dungarvan, one of Ireland’s most exciting emerging traditional Irish music festivals, returns this year from 20th to 22nd June, bringing together world-class musicians, singers, and dancers from Waterford, across Ireland, and overseas for an unforgettable weekend of live music, workshops, and cultural celebration.
An Unmissable Line-Up
This year’s festival features an incredible roster of talent, including headline acts Cherish the Ladies, celebrating their 40th anniversary, along with Danú, Talisk, and The Rising. From intimate sessions to high-energy performances, TuneFest Dungarvan promises a vibrant mix of concerts, dancing, and spontaneous pub sessions throughout the weekend.
A Festival for All Ages
Committed to fostering the next generation of musicians, TuneFest offers a variety of opportunities for young artists. A busking competition will take place on Saturday afternoon outside The Local on Grattan Square, giving young musicians a chance to showcase their talent. In addition, a day of workshops will be held on Saturday, 21st June, at Ard Scoil Na Déise, covering instruments such as banjo, fiddle, accordion, concertina, whistle, and bodhrán. The workshops will culminate in a tutor and student concert, offering participants the unique opportunity to perform alongside some of the festival’s leading musicians.
Open-Air Performances & Trad Sessions
Grattan Square, the heart of Dungarvan, will be buzzing with music throughout the festival. The outdoor gig rig, running on both Saturday and Sunday, will feature an impressive line-up of traditional Irish musicians, bringing the town alive with the sounds of trad music. In addition, the town’s renowned pubs will host a variety of sessions, ensuring an authentic and immersive musical experience for festival-goers.
A Community-Driven Festival
Now in its fifth year, TuneFest is organised by a dedicated voluntary committee deeply rooted in the local traditional music scene. Dungarvan boasts a strong trad music heritage, with a wealth of All-Ireland Champion musicians and a thriving traditional community influenced by the nearby An Rinn Gaeltacht and Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann branches.
More Than Just Music
Beyond the festival’s world-class music, Dungarvan offers a fantastic destination for visitors. The town is home to a variety of pubs, restaurants, and cultural attractions, as well as the stunning Waterford Greenway, making it the perfect getaway for festival attendees.
